Big Baldy & Little Baldy Loop

This trail follows the steep south ridge of Big Baldy to the front peak then continues across to the true summit. After descending to the Big Baldy saddle it follows the Great Western Trail to the Little Baldy saddle. Bushwhack up the back/east side of Little Baldy before returning to the saddle. Continue on the GWT to the "Rock Pile". Turning right follow any of the trails all the way down to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail and return to the trail head. Alternatively you can try to find the Forest Service trail 051 which curves around to Dry Canyon at the Curly Springs junction and return that way. - mscalora

Length: 10.3 miles.

Mahogany Mountain from Grove Creek

This track follows the Grove Creek Trail (Forest Service 048) for about a mile, just past the second switchback turn and then bushwhacks up the southwest ridge. Follow close to the crest of the ridge. Cut north of the crest at 7500 ft to avoid an impassable uphill facing cliff at 7600 ft at the crest of the ridge. Once past this cliff stay near the crest of the ridge again until reaching the south point of the main Mahogany Mountain Ridge. Once on the main ridge enjoy the view of Mount Timpanogos and then head north. Follow game trail on the western side of the ridge. There are a few bands of trees across the ridge which must be passed through. Continue north until reaching the 9001 ft summit. - mscalora

Length: 7.0 miles.

Pinnacle Trail Loop

This loop starts at the Visitor's Center in Crowder's Mountain State Park and takes you up the Pinnacle Trail and back down on the Turnback Trail. I actually like this hike better than Crowder's Trail. It is rated strenuous and you'll figure out why going up the last half mile. - patm81980

Length: 3.5 miles.

Crowder's Mountain Loop

Located in Crowder's Mountain State Park just west of Charlotte NC, this route takes you from the park's Visitor's Center, up Crowder's Trail to the overlook atop Crowder's Mountain and then back to the Visitor's Center along the Rock Top Trail. - patm81980

Length: 5.2 miles.

Malans Peak

Malans peak is actually not a peak but a high point along a trail which leads to malans basin. The basin further along this trail is where the malans family operated a resort in the 1800's it burned down in the early 1900's and still is private property but the current owner allows people to hike through the area since right now it is pretty much reclaimed as wilderness and is not being actively used anymore. - JosephScott123

Length: 4.1 miles.

Flander's Point Loop

Flanders Point Interpretive trail is one of the last places in the Salt Lake Valley that looks as it did hundreds of years ago. As you follow this trail you will pass the location of an old log mill and an Indian campsite. This is a simple educational trail with several stops to learn about the area and plant life. Nice easy walk for anyone. - Gazelem

Length: 0.6 miles.

Cascade Mountain from The Quarry/Squaw Peak Road

There is an ATV trail at the northeast end of the parking area road that you start on, it turns into a hiking trail that you have to follow carefully. That ends in some thick aspen that you have to make your way through roughly east. After you get down into the gully, follow the bottom of it uphill until you enter the chute proper. Climb up the rocky chute until you come to a large (5' diameter?) log laying in the chute where it opens up a little wider. Just above it is a ramp that cuts back to the south. At the top of the ramp head uphill to the rock face and scramble up the narrow chute. The hardest part is over once you are on top of the ridge at a small flat spot where there's an old fire pit with trash and a big dead tree standing. You can head up staying near the top of the ridge you are on until you hit the top ridge where you can see down the other side to the east. The peak is now about 0.75 mile to the north, stay up on the very top of the ridge except for a few spot where you have to duck under trees. - mscalora

Length: 4.3 miles.

Mount Superior & Monte Cristo

Though short, only 5 miles, the hike involved quite a bit of scrambling and route finding. The hike starts from the Alta "Town Building" just off on the north side of highway 210, the main road going up Little Cottonwood Canyon just across from the Alta Lodge.

Follow "Michigan City Rd" which quickly turns into a gravel road around a couple of switchback turns before turning left/north on to a jeep trail right across from the snow avalanche study area. Note the power lines running up to the northwest, you should end up reaching the pass at the sport where these lines cross the ridge into Big Cottonwood Canyon. Follow the jeep trail west-northwest as it wanders up the slope. There is a turn off of the jeep trail on to a single-track trail going west at a quick double switchback. This trail climbs up all the way to a power pole at the pass where you can see down into Mill D South Fork in Big Cottonwood Canyon. This section accounts for a little less than half of the distance and a little more than half of the elevation gain.

The rest of the hike follows the ridge west over and around various peaks. The first unnamed peak has some antennas and a small metal box shaped structure. There are trails that contour around this peak on both the north and south sides. The south side is longer but has a nice view of the canyon. I suggest trying one on the way out and one on the way back. There is also a side trail that runs up to the top of this unnamed peak from the north side if you feel like you have any extra energy you wan to burn it off.

In places there is a nice trail along the ridge and others the trail seems to disappear out of thin air. In general, the trail follows mostly on the south side of the ridge. My best advice is keep looking ahead and don't be shy about backing up if the direction you're head starts looking too radical.

[...continued] The stretch from the antenna peak to Mount Superior is most of the real work. When you reach the summit of Mount Superior you will be rewarded with a great view of Monte Cristo to the west. The traverse over to Monte Cristo is fairly easy. - mscalora

Length: 5.0 miles.

Dromedary Peak

Hike departs from Mill B South trailhead. First two miles are maintained trail. Cross a stream just under a beaver pond, follow the trail on the east side of the pond and then up through a hillside stand of trees. Trail becomes harder to follow as it climbs the drainage towards Sunrise Peak, mostly on the east side of the stream bed. The trail to Broads Fork Twin Peaks cuts off to the west at a rock pile, keep left continuing south towards Sunrise Peak. Begin turning to the east at about 9600 ft to make the north ridge of Dromedary Peak at about 10500 ft. Exposed scrambling is required to follow the north ridge tending east up to the peak. - mscalora

Length: 8.4 miles.

Maple Mountain

Follow Y-Mountain/Slide Canyon Trail to the Maple Flats trail. From Maple Flats bushwhack uphill to the east. - mscalora

Hiked in July, it was very hot and dry on the Y-Mountain side. There was a spring running as the trail reached Maple Flats. Bushwhack up Maple Mountain was steep and dry, lot of powdery soil. Vegetation wasn't too thick if you find a good trail. - mscalora

Length: 7.1 miles.
