Trail Description

This trail follows the Y Trail, then branches off following the trail to Bear Flats Meadow. From there it climbs the hill on the south side of the meadow, climbing to a set of beautiful meadows surrounded by aspen trees. This is not an official forest service trail, and just as you get into the first meadow, the trail dissapears, leaving you to find your way through a collection of meadows. - TelegramSam

Wanted to get to the summit, but the trail disappeared into stinging nettle taller than me and decided we'd wait till the monocots died for the winter before trying again. We had fun though.

We actually bushwhacked up the front of the mountain to Maple Flat and took the trail back down since it was getting dark. Really neat area, I can't wait to go again.

Not sure whether this would be our last time hiking for the season. Started up at around 3pm. The colors were beautiful -- reds, oranges, yellows. Made it almost to the end when we happened upon (what we think was) a black bear. Decided that it would be best to head back down the mountain.

Lovely morning for a hike. My wife and I took our 8 month old daughter, and had a beautiful time. Flowers sprinkle the trail, and the scrub oak is doing well at the lower elevations. We did see two rattle snakes on the trail.

Hiked this one early in the morning so we weren't too hot on the Y trail. Much greener than last time we hiked up this way. Maple Flat is really pretty. Great spot to stop and have lunch, or even camp overnight!
